Submersible Slurry Pumps

When a pump has to operate fully submerged, such as when handling slurries, dewatering a worksite, or moving abrasive wastewater from below the fluid level, most centrifugal and electric pump options fall short. The PSG® Store carries industrial submersible AODD pumps from Wilden® and All-Flo™, designed for continuous submerged operation in conditions that may destroy conventional pumps.

Air-operated diaphragm pumps are uniquely suited to submersion: no electricity in the fluid, no shaft seals to fail, and the ability to handle solids, slurries, and abrasives that would erode an impeller.

When to Use a Submersible AODD Pump

Submersible AODD pumps, a type of positive displacement pump, are the right choice when one or more of the following apply:

  • Dewatering: pumping accumulated water from sumps, pits, vaults, or excavations where the pump can sit at the fluid level

  • Slurry transfer: moving abrasive mixtures (sand, sediment, drilling mud) where centrifugal pumps would erode quickly

  • Wastewater handling: submerged operation in lift stations, treatment basins, or industrial process tanks

  • Hazardous environments: locations where electric submersible pumps create ignition risk; AODD only needs compressed air

  • Variable submersion levels: the pump can run wet or dry without damage as fluid levels rise and fall

How AODD Pumps Handle Submerged Operation

Standard diaphragm pumps work above the fluid using suction lift; submersible AODD pumps are configured for continuous immersion. The key differences: sealed air valve assemblies that prevent water ingress to the pneumatic side, exhaust routing above the fluid line so spent air discharges without backflow, and material selections (housings, diaphragms, hardware) calibrated for sustained underwater contact with the specific fluid being pumped.

Because nothing rotates inside the fluid path and there are no electrical components to seal, AODD submersibles handle abrasive slurries, suspended solids, and chemical fluids that would damage submersible centrifugals. Because of this, many AODD configurations make for great chemical diaphragm pumps. They also tolerate intermittent dry running as fluid levels drop, restarting cleanly when re-submerged, making them inherently self-priming pumps.

If you ever need any diaphragm pump parts, the PSG® Store carries anything you could need for your AODD.

Wilden® and All-Flo™ Submersible Configurations

The PSG® Store carries submersible-rated configurations from both Wilden® and All-Flo™. Wilden's® submersible AODDs are widely used in mining, dewatering, and oil & gas applications. All-Flo™ offers reliable submersible options for general industrial dewatering and wastewater handling.

Find the Right Submersible Pump for Your Application

Use the filters above to narrow by brand, material, and port size, or use the pump finder if you need help matching a pump to your specific submerged application. In-stock pumps ship same-day; non-stocked configurations ship direct from the manufacturer.
